Team

Emergency management and software, on one team.

We built Hazzard to give each jurisdiction one current picture of its risk.

Patrick has delivered plans with emergency managers since 2011. Chris put AI into production for enterprise customers at Palantir. Hazzard is what we saw missing in the field: one assessment that does not have to be rebuilt each plan cycle.

Why us

What we bring to your plan.

We work inside real plan updates.

Features are tested on real plan cycles with Colorado municipalities and counties, through Active Analysis Consulting engagements, before they ship.

We have delivered production AI for national aviation systems and Fortune 500s

Putting Palantir Foundry and AIP into production for enterprise customers taught the rule Hazzard runs on: AI drafts, code checks, and a person decides.

Real plan delivery since 2011, at The CP Journal and Active Analysis Consulting

Patrick still trains and delivers that work with emergency managers. It is the practice Hazzard is built on.

Founders

The people you’ll work with.

Patrick Van Horne, Co-founder & CEO

Patrick Van Horne

Co-founder & CEO

Boulder, Colorado

Patrick leads Hazzard's strategy, operations, customer development, and go-to-market efforts. His career has focused on helping organizations understand risk, prepare for uncertainty, and make better decisions before consequences become unavoidable.

A former Marine Corps infantry officer, Patrick later co-authored Left of Bang and went on to work across emergency management, disaster response, consulting, training, and preparedness. He co-founded The CP Journal, where his work with emergency managers, public safety agencies, local governments, and other organizations helped surface the problem Hazzard is built to address: critical risk information is often split across plans, studies, departments and consultants.

At Hazzard, Patrick makes sure the platform matches how organizations actually manage risk, and that it is useful to the people making those decisions.

Christopher Knight

Co-founder & CTO

Denver, Colorado

Chris leads Hazzard's product, engineering, and technical architecture. He builds software and AI that help people work from the same body of information, with the source and the review still attached.

He studied cultural anthropology: how communities form, share what they know, and solve problems together. After traveling through more than 30 countries, he started writing software, first for travel startups and then for enterprise systems at Xero.

At Palantir he was a Forward Deployed Engineer on Foundry, AIP, and OSDK, putting AI into production for enterprise customers. At Guild he was a Senior Engineering Manager, leading eight engineers on data integration for more than 60 Fortune 500 companies. At Hazzard he builds the data layer, the AI workflows, and the review systems the platform runs on.
